The Dinoff School: A private school exclusively for gifted children

I just learned that metro Atlanta has a private school just for gifted students. It’s called The Dinoff School, and it’s in Griffin, Ga., about an hour’s drive south of downtown Atlanta.

This K-12 school first opened to students in fall 2010. Every student has been identified as gifted; every faculty member holds gifted certification.

The Dinoff School is now accepting applications for the 2012-13 school year. Tuition is $7,000, which compares very favorably against some of the elite private academies around town.

UPDATE: The Dinoff School is no longer in operation.

i went to the school as a child, there were 7 kids in my class i was in 3rd grade at the time. it was uh snobby but it was enriching, they had a language class in a computer lab which at an elementary age is i think in the right direction. with that being said for the days being as long as 7ish to 4 and being in a dark computer room, we didn’t get recess i remember an odd occasion when we did and it was just a sad empty courtyard in the middle of the complex with i think one tetherball and not a whole lot else. they also didn’t offer school lunches and since my parents worked and didn’t plan on just i needing a lunch since everyone else had school lunches i felt kinda singled out or hardly thought of despite payment for the “lunches” i could get when i didn’t bring a lunchable (it was really sorry but i can’t remember what i ate). to be honest, i try not to think about my time here but since this was the top result on google i suppose i’ll leave a testament to this establishment.

tl;dr: snobby facade of a small town gifted experience that clearly didn’t hold up hence why it’s closed. i went to program challenge as a child in elementary as a form of gifted enrichment and i feel it did wonders for me. chemistry came easy because we were taught the periodic table (as an example) and creativity was allowed to flow. creativity died here and academics came at the cost of your soul it felt like, but that’s just me lol
