Aviation camp in Gwinnett for grades 7-12

EAAThe local chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) is offering a summer aviation camp at the Gwinnett County Airport. The one-week camp is open to kids entering grades 7 to 12.

The instructors are experienced pilots, mechanics, and aviation enthusiasts who are members of EAA Chapter 690. These volunteers are passionate about aviation and love sharing their skills, talents and time with the next generation of aviation enthusiasts. They started this camp in 2012 and have expanded it this year to include two levels of instruction.

Rising 7th-9th graders can apply to Camp Alpha, where they’ll learn the principles of flight, remote control and paper airplane models, and other basics of creating model aircraft.

For rising 10th-12th graders, there’s Camp Bravo. Topics include carving propellers, aviation photography, aerobatics, helicopters, and using a flight simulator.

The camp runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, June 11-15, 2013. On June 16, participants can take part in an optional Young Eagles flight.

Registration deadline is May 11.
