Information for DeKalb’s 2013 Serendipity summer program
You can’t register yet, but here is the basic information about this summer’s session of Serendipity summer camp, a program of the DeKalb County School District.
Dates: June 10-13, 2013 (That’s not a typo. The camp is four days long.)
Location: Midvale Elementary School
Open to: Students currently in grades 1-5
Serendipity camp is open to children who participated in the gifted program at a DeKalb County public school during the 2012-13 school year. If you have a student in DeKalb’s gifted programs, you should receive a flyer from the school with more details. The county’s gifted coordinator, Donyell Atkinson, told me the full information should go home by the end of April. Registration will take place from the end of April until mid-May.

Thanks for the update! I haven’t seen anything from the school yet so I was wondering if I missed something.
May 9th here and my Oak Grove rising 4th grader has heard nothing. Has it been cancelled?
Kathy, my kids just brought home the full brochure today (May 9). The delay may be on your school’s end of things — Donyell Atkinson says she’s already receiving completed applications, so it’s clear some schools have sent them home. At my school, they send home all that kind of promotional paperwork on Thursdays, so maybe your child’s school will send it on their mass paperwork day as well. If you don’t get something by the end of this week, contact me and I’ll try to help.
Kathy, my first grader came home with the brochure today.
Has anyone sent their child to this camp? Thoughts? Tips? Thanks!
We got our application yesterday, 5/13. My theory is DCSS rolls out the application to schools in phases especially since registration has been open since April 29th according to the application. Four days to register is pretty ridiculous.
My now 4th grader went to Serendipity when he was in 1st grade. He didn’t really enjoy it. He complained that he didn’t learn anything new and we haven’t tried it since. The year he went, the Monday morning was very disorganized and chaotic but pick up was fairly smooth.
I have not received any information from my daughters school which is Smokerise Elem. what shouid I do?
I would like to find out when registration is for the Serendipity summer camp in Dekalb County?
Ama and Carolyn, thanks for reminding me to look into this. Information on the 2014 Serendipity program will be posted to GiftedAtlanta.com this morning.
