DeKalb County moves summer gifted program online

The DeKalb County School District has long provided a week-long enrichment program called Serendipity to its gifted elementary-age students. This year, Serendipity will be a live, virtual program, June 15-19, 2020.

Enrichment activities will include art, Spanish language, drama, and physical education.

Serendipity is open to rising 1st through 6th graders who are enrolled in a DeKalb County public school.

Hello Dori / thank you for sharing this information. When it says for 6th graders, do you think it means for 6th graders as of Aug 2020?

    Thank you! Karen Dobkin

Nice to hear from you, Karen. Ordinarily, with summer programs, they’re referring to the “rising” grade level, but looking back at my prior posts about Serendipity, I think here it means students who were in grades 1 through 6 during the 2019-2020 school year. (Usually, the Serendipity information is sent home via a flyer in early May, so it would go to gifted students who are enrolled in 1st through 6th grade at the time the flyer is distributed.)
